Black artists of the twentieth century.
Classically trained and impossible to define,
she blended classical music, jazz, blues, gospel
and folk into a musical voice that was entirely her own.

This album is my personal tribute to an extraordinary artist.
Her artistry, courage and unwavering authenticity
continue to inspire musicians around the world.
